‘We Came to Make Shampoo and Fix Teeth’: Two Africans Captured Fighting for Russia in the Ukraine
Putin the Terrible does not mind mercenaries from anywhere doing his dirty work! How desperate is this megalomaniac and war criminal?
The Russo-Ukrainian War is World War III by any other name given how many countries are involved one way or the other. Hope and pray it remains geographically contained.
I presume this story is not a fake.
"... Since the start of 2024, a total of 3,344 foreign nationals who went to fight in Ukraine have received Russian citizenship, according to the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs. ..." (as of 1/7/2025)
"In the Siversky sector (Donetsk region), Ukrainian forces captured two Cameroonian nationals who had been fighting for Russia, according to the 20th Separate UAV Regiment. In a video released by the unit, the men introduced themselves as Metugena Una-na Jean Pafe and Anatole Frank. They claimed they had come to Russia to work – one “to make shampoo,” the other “to fix teeth.” ..."

Emigration of trained Cameroon health care workers to Canada exacerbates Inequality. Really!
The brain drain from developing to developed countries is not a new phenomenon! It is several decades old if not a century or more.
Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health phrased this as: Health Worker Exodus [???] Exacerbates Inequality [???]. Really! What a foolish, narrow minded opinion!
Not mentioned in this lousy article:
- Regularly significant remittances and all the benefits that come with it
- Does e.g. Cameroon train more medical staff than needed domestically?
- When do these emigrants typically return to Cameroon or other countries of Africa?
"... One pipeline: Cameroon to Canada. About a third of last year's medical graduates from Cameroon have already left the country for higher-paying jobs in North America and Europe. ..."

World's first mass malaria vaccine campaign for children in Cameroon starts
Good news! This particular vaccine has been developed since 1960s.
"The world’s first mass malaria vaccination campaign began today in Cameroon—marking a “significant turning point” in the decades-long fight against the disease ..."
"Cameroon will be the first country to routinely give children a new malaria vaccine as the shots are rolled out in Africa. ..."
"RTS,S/AS01 (trade name Mosquirix) is a recombinant protein-based malaria vaccine. It is one of two malaria vaccines approved (the other is R21/Matrix-M). As of April 2022, the vaccine has been given to 1 million children living in areas with moderate-to-high malaria transmission, with millions more doses to be provided as the vaccine's production expands.[3][4] 18 million doses have been allocated for 2023-2025." Indian companies are bringing one of the world’s most polluting industry, i.e. battery recycling, to Africa. People are getting sick.
This is my second blog in two days about dubious business practices by Indian companies. The first one was about cough syrup for children.
It seems, the ascending superpower India has some clean up to do.
"Battery recycling is considered one of the most polluting industries in the world, with related lead contamination afflicting surrounding environments for generations, and the body “for a lifetime.”
While the process has become more regulated in India, companies there have moved the toxic industry to African nations with few protections.
In a must-read investigation, The Examination, The Museba Project, and Ghana Business News looked at the toll Indian-owned battery recycling plants take on surrounding communities. ..."
The Examination commissioned blood tests of people who live near the Metssa Congo plant and had them analyzed for lead levels by a laboratory in France.
