Airbus wants to build world’s first hydrogen fuel jet engine by 2035

Ambitious! This is quite a commitment given it's 10 years into the future plan!

"Airbus and Germany’s MTU Aero Engines have partnered to develop the world’s first fully electric hydrogen fuel cell aircraft engine by 2035."

"Electric hydrogen-powered aircraft were once considered a costly pipe dream, but recent advancements show it’s possible. One of the industry’s biggest aeronautics companies is pushing forward with plans to develop its own next-generation plane engine. On July 7, Airbus confirmed a partnership with Germany’s MTU Aero Engines to design and construct the world’s first aircraft engine powered entirely by electric hydrogen fuel cells.

A newly formed joint company aims to begin in 2027, depending on regulatory approvals from the European Union. Both sides previously entered into a memorandum of understanding at last year’s Paris Air Show ..."

Lockheed delivered record 191 F-35s in 2025

Serious stuff!

"Lockheed Martin delivered 191 F-35 Joint Strike Fighters last year, according to the company, the highest yearly amount in the program’s history, as the major defense contractor worked to clear out a backlog of previously undelivered jets.

The total far surpassed the previous record of 142 F-35s for 2021. It follows two slower years for F-35 deliveries — 98 in 2023 and 110 in 2024 — that were due to the Defense Department decision to stop accepting new F-35s because of problems with Technology Refresh 3, or TR-3, updates. Over that three-year span, Lockheed delivered an average of 133 F-35s each year. ..."

Boeing Lands $96 Billion Deal for up to 210 airplanes With Qatar Airways

A mind boggling deal by President Trump! It is almost like "One Thousand and One Nights"!

"Boeing has locked in the biggest aircraft order in its history: a $96 billion deal with Qatar Airways for up to 210 widebody jets, unveiled this week during President Trump’s visit to Doha.

The purchase includes 130 Dreamliners and 30 777Xs, with options for 50 more. Powering this fleet: more than 400 GE Aerospace engines, making it the largest widebody engine order GE has ever received. ..."

Air Force Awards Contract for Next Generation Air Dominance (NGAD) Platform, F-47. Really!

Will this plane still have a human pilot? Do we still need military airplanes going into the next decade? I have some serious doubts!

"The Department of the Air Force announced today the contract award for the Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD) of the Next Generation Air Dominance (NGAD) Platform, marking a major milestone in the advancement of air superiority. The contract, awarded to Boeing, will lead to the development of the F-47, the world’s first sixth-generation fighter aircraft. ...

President Donald J. Trump during a press briefing at the White House. “Nothing in the world comes even close to it, and it'll be known as the F-47.”"

Rocket plane makes first civil supersonic flight since Concorde's last flight in 2003

Good news! Next time you eat a Kiwi ... 😊

"
  • The fastest aircraft ever to climb from ground level to 20 km.
  • First New Zealand-designed and -built aircraft to fly supersonic.
  • Highest altitude achieved by an aircraft flown from New Zealand.
..."

Rocket plane makes first civil supersonic flight since Concorde "The rebirth of commercial supersonic flight has kind of, sort of come to pass as Dawn Aerospace announces that its 16-ft (4.8-m) Mk-II Aurora rocket-powered aircraft broke the sound barrier with a speed of Mach 1.1 on November 12, 2024."

Look how small this rocket is. A lot smaller than a Concorde! 😊

The famous company Boeing seems to be in serious financial trouple

Bad news!

"Boeing is moving to raise at least $10 billion by selling new shares in a bid to stop its cash drain, people familiar with the matter said.
In addition, the jet maker is laying groundwork to raise more cash in coming years, according to regulatory filings. A roughly monthlong strike by Boeing’s largest union is making things worse; its operations were burning through about $1 billion a month ... before that. Boeing, which last turned a profit in 2018, ended September with close to the minimum amount of cash and securities that the company has said it needs to operate. Credit-rating firms have warned that Boeing needed to raise capital and that its debt could be downgraded to junk status."

Chinese flying taxi-maker EHang Holdings Limited has been given the green light to mass- produce the EH216-S passenger-carrying autonomous aerial vehicle system, from the Civil Aviation Administration of China

Good news! I would not even have to get a pilot's license to fly this single passenger drone! 😊
"Chinese flying taxi-maker EHang Holdings Limited has been given the green light to mass- produce the EH216-S passenger-carrying autonomous aerial vehicle system, from the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) in Guangzhou. The production certificate awarded
on April 7, 2024, was the first issued in China for an autonomous passenger drone, and the first in the global electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) industry."

Delta, Southwest Search for Jet Engine Parts Sold With Forged Safety Records

This is very serious stuff! Minimum sentence for this kind of crime (similar to forging of medications) ought to be life in prison with no pardon.

"The biggest U.S. airlines are searching for thousands of jet-engine parts with fake safety certificates that were installed on their planes, an unusual incident that highlights the complexity and risks in the aerospace global supply chain."

"The questionable components—from simple nuts and bolts to turbine blades—have been found on 126 engines so far. A lawsuit filed by General Electric and its engine partner Safran accuses AOG Technics, a little-known broker that acquires basic parts and sells them to maintenance and repair organizations, of document falsification. An attorney for the components middleman declined to comment on the continuing legal matter. The U.K.-based firm was established in 2015 and currently lists an address that is a co-working space near Buckingham Palace, public records show."
