Debunking The Myth of cheap renewable energy

Food for thought! I also bet that so called renewable energy (an euphemism) is not cheap!

"Existing Coal Plants Are Cheap Compared to Wind and Solar, Research Shows
Although data doesn’t support the claim, climate scolds and renewable-energy profiteers often claim wind and solar are the cheapest sources of power now, and certainly cheaper than coal. This is false.

Energy Information Agency (EIA) data on trends in industrial, commercial, and residential power rates and reliability clearly show that states which have led the way in displacing baseload fossil fuel power plants and existing nuclear with wind and solar have seen the fastest-rising electric prices and the highest number of outages, compared to states that haven’t followed the siren song or green energy to disaster. ...

What EBB discovered is that, “[o]n average, existing coal plants operate at $45.57 per megawatt-hour (Mwh).” The discrepancy between the lowest-cost coal plants, operating at $22 to $27 Megawatts per hour, and the most expensive plants was their utilization rate. The more a plant is utilized, the lower the cost of the power it produces.

Using FERC data once again, the team at EBB found the average cost of an existing coal facility was far below the average cost of an existing industrial wind facility ($59.78 Mwh) and less than half the cost of electricity produced by an existing industrial solar facility ($102.40). ..."

Renewable advocates pin hopes on batteries to fix intermittency, but costs are prohibitive: report

How many batteries would have to be built? How much mining would be necessary? How much CO2 will be emitted?

The subject of how to store the energy generated by so called renewable energy sources is often omitted or deliberately avoided!

"... Researchers with the National Center for Energy Analytics set out to find out if it’s possible to power the grid with wind, solar and batteries. Their report, which was released Thursday, casts considerable doubt on renewable energy proponents’ promise that batteries can resolve the problems of intermittency with wind and solar. ...

“This study demonstrates that a wind-solar-battery policy to meet electricity demand is physically implausible, cost-prohibitive, and unjustifiable on the basis of goals to reduce CO2 emissions,” the report concludes. ..."

"... While the quantity of battery storage has grown rapidly, it remains a minuscule share of total U.S. electricity consumption. At the beginning of 2026, total grid-scale battery storage could supply about 15 minutes of average U.S. electricity demand. ...

This study evaluated the physical and economic feasibility of building a reliable electric system primarily powered by wind, solar, and battery storage. The analysis used a model of the PJM Interconnection system, the nation’s largest grid operator, which covers 13 states and the District of Columbia and serves more than 67 million people.

Using PJM’s long-term forecast through 2045, the study estimated the quantities of wind, solar, and storage batteries that would be needed under three scenarios: renewables only (RO), which consisted of wind, solar, batteries, and existing nuclear plants while retiring all coal and natural gas generation;
natural gas and nuclear (NGN), which comprised existing and new natural gas generators along with new nuclear plants; and
NGN+B, which added battery storage to replace gas-fired generators during peak demand periods.

The analysis showed that to compensate for the intermittency of solar and wind, roughly tenfold more total generating capacity would be required by 2045 under the RO scenario than the NGN scenario. The additional capacity would be needed not only to serve daily or seasonal variations in supply and demand but also to accommodate well-documented wind and solar droughts—that is, multiday periods with little to no sunshine or wind. ..."

Renewables Overtook Global Electricity Demand Last Year. Really!

I bet, we are dealing here with a lot of wishful thinking and data manipulation! More propaganda than fact?

Was the solar+wind power generated electricity actually used?

The vague language of the news reports does not distinguish capacity from generation or private household generation from commercial generation etc. I have some serious doubts about the claims of such enormous solar power generation growth as stated by Ember!

What exactly is included in the euphemistically and falsely called "clean energy"?

Who funds the think tank Ember?

Ember vision/mission statement: "We’re a global energy think tank that aims to accelerate the clean energy [???] transition with data and policy"

"“Record growth in solar, especially in China and India, was a driving factor for clean energy sources [???] surpassing the world’s strong demand for electricity in 2025, according to a new global power analysis.

Clean power generation [???] grew 887 terawatt hours last year, exceeding overall global electricity demand growth of 849 terawatt hours, according to a report by energy think tank Ember, released after midnight Tuesday London time.”"

"... Together with growth in other clean sources, this solar surge drove clean power to meet all global electricity demand growth in 2025. Solar alone met three-quarters (75%) of the increase, while solar and wind together met almost all of it (99%).
In total, clean generation rose by 887 TWh, slightly exceeding demand growth of 849 TWh. As a result, fossil generation fell by 0.2%, making 2025 only the fifth year this century without growth in fossil electricity. ..."

Energiewende: Hohe Kapazität, wenig Produktion

Empfehlenswert!

How Wind And Solar Are Quietly Inflating Electricity Bills

Recommendable! Similar facts and reasons have been reported over and over for at least the past 20 years or so!

Our ancestors not very long ago abandoned wind power for a reason! Lessons of history unlearned!

How much money was wasted on wind and solar power instead of nuclear power and research into alternative energy supplies like nuclear fusion, hydrogen etc.!

"... Solar and wind’s part-time nature is the root issue. Solar generates nothing at night, little in the first and last hours of daylight, and falters under clouds, rain, or snow. Wind generation varies unpredictably. This intermittency doesn’t just displace fossil fuels like natural gas and coal—it forces them into inefficient backup roles. ..."

Where to tap an ocean currents for renewable power. Really!

Another stupid idea like geothermal or wind energy!

What are the long-term negative consequences of doing this on a large scale?

Now a team in Florida has released a comprehensive global map of potential ocean energy locations around the world and show how ocean current turbines could tap that power. ..."

Solar power (plus wind power) occupies a lot of space. Indeed!

I like this unfortunately rare admission by the proponents of so called renewable energy! Compare that to e.g. a nuclear or coal power plant!

Solar power occupies a lot of space – here’s how to make it more ecologically beneficial to the land it sits on

And what a nice and as usual deceiving/misleading chart: 1) It is about capacity instead of actual generation 2) Coal is obviously missing 3) Battery storage???

Texas ranchers oppose massive wind turbine project owned by Chinese company

This is an interesting case! How much is actually China behind pushing these thousands of wind mills to be built in Western countries?

"Two West Texas ranches are suing ERCOT over a wind farm project moving forward in Val Verde County.

Blue Hills wind farm is a 46-turbine project started by GH America Energy. Though GH is based in Houston, its parent company is owned by Chinese billionaire Sun Guangxin. The ranchers argue ERCOT should have stopped the project after the Legislature passed a law banning entities from China, Russia, Iran and North Korea from having direct access to critical infrastructure.

GH America applied to connect the wind farm to the grid before the 2021 law went into effect, and Greenalia, a Spanish renewable energy, took over the farm in 2022. But its unclear who owns the ground beneath the planned turbines. Records show Greenalia entered into a lease agreement with Brazos Highland, a company also reportedly owned by Sun, last July.

Other opponents of the project fear its potential environmental consequences."

Flow batteries for grid-scale energy storage. Really!

How many batteries do we need to make unreliable solar and wind power work on a large scale?

"In the coming decades, renewable energy sources such as solar and wind will increasingly dominate the conventional power grid. ... " Really MIT????

"... However, the electrolyte in a flow battery can degrade with time and use. While all batteries experience electrolyte degradation, flow batteries in particular suffer from a relatively faster form of degradation called “crossover.” ...
Demand for vanadium will grow, and that will be a problem. “Vanadium is found around the world but in dilute amounts, and extracting it is difficult,” ...“So there are limited places — mostly in Russia, China, and South Africa — where it’s produced, and the supply chain isn’t reliable.” As a result, vanadium prices are both high and extremely volatile — an impediment to the broad deployment of the vanadium flow battery. ..."

Wirklich!

Was für ein lachhafter und idiotischer Faktencheck!!!

Warum gibt es nicht mehr solcher Fotos? Was wird verheimlicht? 😊

Scotland Littered By Tonnes of Toxic Plastics Shed By Thousands of Wind Turbine Blades

There are no panaceas in this world and wind mills are no exception! Looks like we are fast learning about how environmentally unfriendly these thousands and ten thousands of wind mills are.

"... look no further than the Scottish Highlands – where some 4,500 of these things have polluted a once majestic landscape. ...
To make way for them, more than 17,000 acres have been cleared and 14 million trees have been clear-felled in the process, adding to a morbid sense of pointless, industrial-scale environmental destruction.
But, right now, it’s another feature of these 300-tonne monsters and their 50-60m blades that has highlanders up in arms.
And that’s their habit of constantly shedding toxic microplastics and spreading them far and wide. ...
that littering the landscape with toxic plastic junk with complete impunity, is yet another example of how the wind industry gets a free kick on every environmentally harmful aspect of their subsidy-soaked operations. ..."

California’s coming wind turbine farms boom

Surfing California becomes a thing of the past! The Beach Boys would be saddened!

France to pay up to €500m to European Union for falling short of renewable energy targets

This is a really bad joke! This is so absurd! I am sure the French are not amused at all! Of course, this raises the question why France even agreed to apparently ludicrous renewable energy goals!

France is the only EU member with about 56 functioning nuclear power plants in 2022.  No other EU member comes even close! Thus, France has reduced carbon dioxide emissions dramatically for decades!

"For failing to reach its European targets for renewable energy in 2020, which it had set itself a decade earlier, the French state will have to pay out several hundred million euros. ...
France is the only one of the 27 EU member states to have missed its goal two years ago. Renewable energy represented just 19.1% of its gross final energy consumption, well below the 23% target. As this target is binding, France must now buy "statistical amounts" of renewable energy through a European mechanism from "good performers" who have exceeded their target. ..."

Unreliable intermittent wind energy and the Environment

Recommendable! Unreliable wind energy is one of the greatest scams of the past 50 years or more!

Wind mills (euphemistically called turbines) is retrograde, taking us back several centuries when our ancestors had no other choice of energy supply!

How much do these gigantic wind farms actually influence local weather and climate?

"When considering the environmental effects of wind energy, one must consider the space taken up by, or footprint of, wind power plants. Although individual towers have a relatively small footprint, studies suggest the total land use and environmental impact of wind farms throughout the county is significant."

"... For instance, a 2017 study by Strata Policy finds the amount of space required to produce 1,000 megawatts (MW) from an industrial wind facility typically exceeds 133 square miles of land, compared to just 1.3 square miles needed for an equivalent nuclear power plant. ..."

These wind mills are mass killers of animals and insects! "Every year, 75 to 110 Golden eagles are killed by turbines at just one wind turbine facility in California. As many as 4,700 birds are killed annually at this site alone. ..."
