Tesla engaged in deceptive marketing for Autopilot and Full Self-Driving, judge rules. Really!

Bad news! What is going on in California again? Politically motivated lawfare? Technophobia?

Caveat:  I am not familiar with the details of this case.

"An administrative law judge has ruled that Tesla engaged in deceptive marketing that gave customers a false impression of the capabilities of its Autopilot and Full Self-Driving driver assistance software, a pivotal development in a years-long case initiated by California’s Department of Motor Vehicles.

The judge agreed with the state DMV’s request to suspend Tesla’s sales and manufacturing licenses in the state for 30 days as a penalty for its actions, but the DMV stayed the order and is giving Tesla 60 days to comply. ...

The company has signaled it won’t comply, though. Tesla said in a post on X that: “Sales in California will continue uninterrupted.”

“This was a ‘consumer protection’ order about the use of the term ‘Autopilot’ in a case where not one single customer came forward to say there’s a problem,” the company wrote. ..."

Oh, these old worry warts! I have little doubt that humans can handle, benefit from and live with superintelligence!

"Key Points

Italy's Swift take down of TikTok, now DeepSeek over China, privacy concerns is in line with a decade-long history of Italian actions against latest technologies

Recommendable!

"... Italy was the first country to ban the app, but others have since followed suit, including Australia, India, Taiwan, and the U.S. Navy and the state of Texas. Other governments are reported to be mulling similar moves. ...

The country has long exhibited a deep-seated suspicion of unfamiliar or untested technologies. In 2023, Italy temporarily blocked OpenAI over privacy concerns and then last December it fined OpenAI about $16 million and ordered it to change policies. Going further back, the country’s regulators have a decade-long history of sanctioning U.S. Internet giants like Amazon, Apple, and Google. ..."

EU's new AI rules will focus on ethics and transparency follies

Look at the crazy EU Europeans again! Incompetent Vestager is responsible for digital technology. What a joke!

The EU Commission plans to shackle AI. The rest of the world will have a good laugh about the nutty and living in a bubble elitist Europeans!

So glad for Brexit! Other European countries should follow the British example!

EU's new AI rules will focus on ethics and transparency | VentureBeat: The EU will propose AI regulations that focus on ethics and transparency in a bid to distance its policies from those of China and the U.S.

EU introduces AI strategy to build ‘ecosystem of trust’

"The proposals would lead to changes in the way data is collected and shared in an effort to level the playing field between European companies and competitors from the U.S. and China."
So much wishful thinking hurts! Sounds like Ursula von der Leyen!
