US Defense Secretary Hegseth to Cut 20% of Generals, Admirals

Good news! Trim the fat! Less stars!

"War Secretary Pete Hegseth will announce today a 20% cut to the positions reserved for generals and admirals, doubling the reduction he ordered last year.

The cuts apply to slots, not the officers filling them now. Some jobs will be downgraded so that colonels and Navy captains can hold them, and the services have until this Jan. 1 to complete the work.

Last year’s order trimmed 10% of all generals and admirals and 20% of four-stars, which Hegseth summed up as “Less Generals, more GIs.” ..."

President Trump calls reports of depleting munitions 'treasonous,' insists stockpiles are solid and are being replenished

Indeed, many of these news media reports about the supposed low stocks of ordnance/missiles in recent weeks/months were sensationalism or junk at worst!

Trump calls reports of depleting munitions 'treasonous,' insists stockpiles are solid | Just The News "He said the U.S. is producing munitions "levels never seen before," and these are currently being used for our nation's own stockpiles rather than being exported to America's allies."

US military disabled ad tracking on troops' devices following reports of targeted attacks by enemies

Serious stuff! Essentially any and each personal wearable computer device worn by a soldier anywhere in the world could be exploited/spied on by adversaries.

Notice this article is only about government issued devices.

Notice the two articles do not report which country is behind this neither does the letter by the US Senator (e.g. China, Russia, North Korea). Why this secrecy?

"The U.S. Department of Defense has disabled advertising tracking on troops’ phones and computers as part of an effort to protect them from threats that target their locations, according to a letter shared with Sen. Ron Wyden.

Per a letter shared with the senior Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee, Wyden said that the U.S. Army, Air Force, Navy, and Marine Corps, and Special Operations Command have all disabled advertising tracking across their government-issued devices. ..."

Marines, Navy mandate yearly gas mask training to ‘reinforce grooming compliance’. Really!

Is that necessary! Sounds cynical!

How often did poisonous gas attacks happen in military conflicts since 1918 AC/CE? According to Google Search perhaps a dozen times (not including terrorist attacks).

Why does the US military not invest in research to make daily shaving a thing of the past! I would be very happy! 😊

"The Marine Corps and Navy will require personnel to undergo annual gas mask fit training beginning at the end of August, a move the services say is intended in part to “reinforce grooming compliance.” ..."

America is back to blowing up narco boats

Controversial, but perhaps necessary! However, organized crime will surely find other routes!

"The U.S. military killed two suspected drug traffickers Sunday [8/23/2026] in a strike on a vessel operating in the Eastern Pacific, marking the latest use of deadly force against narcotics networks moving drugs toward the United States.

U.S. Southern Command announced the operation Monday, releasing video showing an explosive strike against what officials described as a low-profile vessel traveling along known drug-trafficking routes.

“Confirmed intelligence revealed the vessel’s active involvement in narco-trafficking,” the command said. “The operation killed two narco-terrorists.” ..."

'No such thing as a regional conflict anymore,' US Strategic Command chief says

Food for thought! However, the article below seems to be strangely limited to information warfare.

By any other name, e.g. the Russo-Ukrainian War is already a World War III given how many countries are involved on both sides.

The Iran war of 2026 is fast expanding geographically encompassing more and more countries.

Then we have weaponized drones flying into other than the warring countries either by defensive measures, or intentional rerouting or otherwise (e.g. Ukrainian drones ending up in Baltic States or Romania etc.).

"... “There is no such thing as a regional conflict anymore,” Correll said. “Every conflict is global in the information domain.” ..."

Pentagon centralizes oversight across offensive and defensive drone programs

Good news!

"The Pentagon has introduced the direct-reporting portfolio manager for unmanned systems (DRPM-UxS), a new position established by War Secretary Pete Hegseth. This role is designed to oversee all Department of War drone and counter-drone programs, consolidating management of unmanned aerial, surface, underwater and ground systems, as well as related autonomy and AI initiatives, under a single leader. The DRPM-UxS will report directly to Deputy War Secretary Stephen Feinberg."

"
  • War Secretary Pete Hegseth established the DRPM-UxS, a new direct-report position to oversee all Pentagon drone and counter-drone efforts
  • The role covers UAS groups 1–3, surface and underwater vessels, ground systems, AI and swarming software, counter-drone, and drone and counter-drone marketplaces
  • Senior Pentagon officials will discuss military drone and autonomy efforts at the Potomac Officers Club’s 2026 Air and Space Summit on July 30 and the 2026 Navy Summit on Aug. 27

Pentagon Establishes New Drone Portfolio Manager Role

U.S. Army troops were defeated by Ukrainian drone operators at a military exercise in Germany earlier this year.

Bad news! Maybe like the knights in shining armor, the time for human army soldiers is over too in the very near future.

It is only a matter of time unitil terrorists will use drones for their attacks.

"During the exercise, Ukrainian drone units easily spotted and took down U.S. troops and armored vehicles on rotation from Fort Hood in Texas, according to people familiar with the events. The exercise, coupled with U.S. casualties in Iran, shows American vulnerabilities to uncrewed systems—years after the U.S. made them an essential part of warfare."

US Army launches search for counter-drone missile priced under $150K. Really!

Headline of the day! What a bad joke! What do drones cost or a drone swarm?

Please go back to the drawing board and start over!

Maybe President Trump needs to fire another general!

US Army opens ranges in Morocco to speed interceptor testing, development

Good news? Is this why President Trump has recently recognized West Sahara in Morocco's favor and Morocco named a long highway after him?

"... The international range is the Multidomain Training Area hosted in Morocco, Driscoll added. He said a private start-up company, called Covenant Industries, successfully tested their Anthem missile there on Thursday. ...

The multidomain training center in Morocco is one of the “primary elements” of a new Africa Multidomain Training and Experimentation Center, created through a memorandum of understanding signed between US Africa Command and the Moroccan Royal Armed Forces last month. ..."

Pentagon identifies two American soldiers killed in Iranian attack in Jordan

Among them a very young woman and soldier!

Welcome to the age of gender equality! Pardon my sarcasm in this case! But in future wars we will probably see more war casualties among female soldiers.

"... The active-duty soldiers were killed during an enemy attack at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base, Jordan. ..."

US used ‘virtually all’ long-range precision missiles during Iran war, sources say. Really!

This or similar headlines were repeated again and again over the past several days or so. I have serious doubts.

Even if it were true, production can probably ramped up in no time if necessary!

Who are these "sources" or better leakers? What are their motives or who pays them to leak? Putin the Terrible, China?

Are these leakers trying to signal to China it is time to invade Taiwan as was suggested?

"... The missiles are principally the Army’s surface-to-surface weapons, known as Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS) and Precision Strike Missiles (PrSM). The U.S. has used “virtually all” of these weapons, according to two of the sources. ..."

Iran tries to inflict a high number of US casualties by targeting sleeping quarters and recreation facilities at US regional bases

I think, this sums up quite well the strategy pursued by Iran!

"... Iran is trying to inflict a steady number of US casualties by targeting sleeping quarters and recreation facilities at US regional bases in order to impose US domestic pressure that would force the US government to halt its airstrike campaign on Iran.
The Artesh [Iran army] claimed that its forces conducted drone attacks targeting US forces gathered at Sheikh Isa Base in Bahrain, Muwaffaq Salti Airbase in Jordan, at al Udeid base in Qatar, and Camp Arifjan in Kuwait, since CTP-ISW's last data cutoff at 2:00 PM ET on July 23.
The IRGC also claimed that its forces targeted the quarters of US forces at Camp Buehring in Kuwait on July 24.
Iranian regime media separately published on July 24 satellite imagery depicting damage from an Iranian ballistic missile hitting buildings reportedly housing US military forces at the Ali al Salem base in Kuwait. ... These claims follow an Iranian missile attack on the Muwaffaq al Salti Airbase on July 17 that struck troop quarters on base and killed 3 US soldiers and injured several others. ..."

US deploys B-1 bomber to strike Iran for first time since war resumed

President Trump is getting serious again! See also my recent, cautionary  blog post here.

It appears the UK is finally supporting the US in this war against Iran.

"... The first strike using the bomber was conducted on Tuesday.

An Axios report published earlier on Thursday noted that the deployed B-1 began its mission from a base in the UK. ... This comes shortly after Bloomberg News reported that newly sworn-in British Prime Minister Andy Burnham approved the use of British bases for attacks by the United States against Iran. ...

The US conducted several B-1 missions between February and April during Operation Epic Fury, hitting missile bases, command centers, weapons storage facilities, and air defense systems. ..."

US Army tests autonomous mass mine-laying

When will autonomous mass demining be tested? What happens when children find and play with landmines?

"... The Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention (Ottawa Convention, entered into force in 1999): This treaty, adhered to by over 160 states, categorically bans the development, production, stockpiling, and use of anti-personnel landmines.
Some nations, notably the United States, have retained modified landmine policies that allow for use under specific tactical conditions while adhering to broader Law of War Manual prohibitions against inherently indiscriminate weapons. ..." (Google search)

"... When mounted to a vehicle, the U.S. Army’s Volcano mine dispenser can blanket roughly 32 acres with up to 960 mines. Now, the service is testing a system that can do the same thing without a driver behind the wheel. ..."
