IBM Quantum has made some major announcements about the future of quantum computing. Its updated roadmap shows that by 2029, they will unveil IBM Quantum Starling, a system projected to run 20,000 times more operations than today’s quantum computers. The big breakthrough is a new fault tolerance protocol, a blueprint to build machines capable of computing despite the error-prone nature of qubits, the building blocks of quantum computers. A fault-tolerant quantum computer could lead to transformative applications in fields like materials science, drug development, optimization, and more. .."
